The mission of the Chair of Social Sciences is to contribute to the expansion of students’ worldviews, the development of critical and creative thinking, and to educate law-abiding citizens through the subjects taught by forming personal responsibilities to their own country and its citizens, to pursuer the implementation of democratic principles, to the dissemination of national and universal values.

For this purpose, continuous work is being carried out by the chair’s intelligent, experienced specialists on the modernization of curriculum, updating the lecture materials, and improvement of student-centered educational methods.

The lecturers of the chair carry out scientific-educational activities to publish monographs and scientific articles. Especially H. Sukiasyan published monographs on Diplomatic relations of Soviet Armenia, territorial-border issues, history of the satirical press, Yerevan city expansion, G. Vardanyan wrote on the cultural life of the First Republic (1918-1920), G. Hovhannisyan – on the history of Social-democratic Hnchakian party, Hnchakian activist Arpiar Arpiaryan’s social-political activities, A. Khudaverdian – on the editorial and publicist activities of Archbishop Melchizedek Muradyants. M. Najaryan published a monograph dedicated to the examination of the influence of the process of international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the economic factor and the Artsakh problem, on the establishment of Armenian-Turkish relations in the 25 years following the independence of the Third Republic of Armenia, as well as the change in the tactics adopted by the Turkish authorities in different periods of time regarding the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

The lecturers of the chair present their reports in local and international scientific conferences; they publish educational methodological works and take part in trainings.
The lecturers of the chair continuously help students to prepare and represent scientific reports.

The chair was established in 2018 by ANAU Board of Trustees by the decision of the sitting of November 6 in result of the unification of the chairs of Armenian history, philosophy, law and political science. The mentioned chairs have passed a glorious path actively taking part in scientific-educational works at the university.
Former chair of History and Philosophy were headed by Sh. Galstyan, docent, A. Makaryan, professor, V. Voskanyan, docent, the chair of Law and Political science was headed by Sh. Galstyan, docent, L. Nurbekyan, docent. Since February 2020 the head of the chair has been H. Sukiasyan.
