Department of Part-Time Studies

History and goals

Part-Time Study is one of the ways for preparing specialists of agricultural sphere.
Yet in 1932 Institute of part-time studies, training specialists in the field of animal husbandry, was founded in Yerevan Zoo Veterinary Institute and lecturer A.Malkov was appointed as the first director. Armenian Agricultural Institute has provided education with part-time program since 1932 as well. First, it was named Agricultural Correspondence Institute, headed by H. Tumanyan. In 1994 after the two universities were unified the faculty for part-time studies was established, professor A.P.Tarverdyan was appointed as dean.
In 1997 the faculty was renamed into the Department of Part-Time Study, A.Tarverdyan, professor, was appointed as head of the department with the status of vice-rector. 1998-2015 E.S. Kosemyan was the head of the department. D.P.Petrosyan headed the department during the period from 2015 through 2019.
In the beginning, students were trained only for a few specialties. Year by year amount of specialties grew and now specialists are prepared in the direction of 18 specialties: 7 – agrobiology, 3 – food technology, 2- economics of agrifood system, 6 – engineering of the agrarian system.
Today it’s needed to implement such technologies in the part-time education system which will allow studnets study at anytime and from anywhere using educatioanl-methodological materials, receive consultations from lecturers saving time.

Objectives of Part-Time Study

The objectives of the department include meeting educational needs of the students who have no opportunity to receive full time education meanwhile having their full-time job, expanding the sphere of educational services for the people of the regional parts of the country, implementation and improvement of modern educational technologies at the educational institutions
