The Chair of Tractors and Agricultural Machines was established upon the decision taken by the Board of Trustees on November 6, as a result of the unification of the chairs of Automobiles and Tractors and Agricultural Machines.

Since the day of foundation scientific research activity has reached the highest level. 6 doctoral theses and 31 dissertations have been defended so far. 300 scientific articles, 4 monographs, 80 methodical works (including 7 manuals, 4 textbooks, 80 methodical instructions) have been published, 51 copyrights have been received.
The chair staff carries out scientific works mainly in two directions; optimization problems of dynamic and technological characteristics of the tractor aggregate in the conditions of mountain soil-cultivation and optimal systems of managing and exploitation of motor transport means.
The chair cooperates with Yerevan Polytechnic, Moscow agri-engineering, Tbilisi, Krasnodar, and Stavropol universities, as well as RA ministry of transport, communication and information technologies, ministry of agriculture, transport department of Yerevan municipality, Metropolitan, different auto transport system companies, transport department RA police exchanging information and organization of industrial practices.
The chair was established in 1931 as chair of Machinery Science. The first chair was S. Sahakyan. Then the chair was headed by A. Khachatryan, Sh. Grigoryan, A. Esoyan, P. Tonapetyan. The chair is equipped with modern Russian and foreign equipment.
Special attention is paid to preparing pedagogical personnel, trainings, qualifications, modern lab equipment. Chair staff received more than 100 copyrights and over 400 scientific articles are published.
