According to the order of the rector of ANAU No. 955 dated October 20, 2023 (based on the relevant decisions of the University’s Scientific Council and the Board of Trustees), the Chairs of Therapy, Surgery and Gynecology and Chair of Epidemiology and Parasitology were united to form the new Chair of Veterinary Medicine․
Both former chairs have done huge works in training the necessary specialists for the agrarian sector.
Training courses for artificial insemination-gynecologists have been conducted since 1996 in the former chair of Therapy, Surgery and Gynecology. Students studying “Veterinary Medicine”, “Veterinary Sanitary Expertise” and “Agricultural Animal Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnologies” majors take an exam after completing this course and receive the qualification of “Artificial Insemination-Operator”.
The scientific research carried out is aimed at the study of the effect of antibiotics on the defense systems, the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and improvement of the latest methods of the digestive, respiratory, urinary systems, metabolic disorders and diseases of farm animals and birds, as well as the effective development and implementation of animal anesthesia and castration, animal feed to the prevention and treatment of trauma with magnetic means, the development and application of the latest effective methods of treatment of infected wounds.
And already in the former Chair of Epidemiology and Parasitology, educational methodical works were organized in accordance with the requirements of modern times. In order to increase the effectiveness of laboratory hands-on trainings, the chair cooperates with the farms of the Republic, the Republican Center of Veterinary-Sanitary and Phytosanitary Laboratory Services, Yerevan Zoo and animal-loving individuals. Laboratory classes are held in laboratories equipped with necessary equipment for microbiological and parasitological research.
The animal infectious diseases and parasitology laboratory is operating at the chair, which is used both for scientific research work and for the educational processes. The chair has a rich museum-auditorium of parasitological and veterinary biological preparations. In 2020, the “Community Vaccinators” modular curriculum, “Veterinary Medicine” sectoral framework (qualifications) specifications, “Guidelines for the organization of veterinary activities in martial law and emergency situations” documents were developed with the direct participation of the chair’s staff.
The staff of the chair cooperates with the relevant departments of Moscow, Thessaloniki, New York, Barcelona and other universities and international organizations.
