The Chairs of Epidemiology and Parasitology were founded in 1931 in Yerevan Zoo Veterinary Institute as separate chairs. 2001 in result of joining these two chairs a Chair of Epidemiology and Parasitology was founded. Professor H. Naghashyan has been the head of chair since 2009. Educational-methodical works are organized and implemented according to requirements of modern times. In order to rise the effectiveness of laboratory-experimental trainings the chair cooperates with Balahovit teaching-eperimental farm, as well as other farms and organization.

The staff of the Chair, as well as the experts of the Scientific Centre of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, have worked out the methods of preparation and use of different vaccines against such widely spread diseases as anthrax, abscess, etc. In 1995-2009 parasitic diseases of all animal species kept in Yerevan Zoo were studied, and preventive measures against them were undertaken. The staff of the chair has a great contribution in developing the science.In this sense the names of Professors H. Boyakhchyan, A. Akunts, M. Arevshatyan, S. Grigoryan should be mentioned. A method of pasteurellosis vaccine was worked out for preventing enteric infection among the young animals.
The Problem Laboratory of Veterinary and Veterinary Sanitary Expertise has been conducting adjunct to the chair since 2005, as well as the Problem Laboratory of Parasitology. The most prevalent parasitic diseases of farm animals, poultry and fish are studied there. The Chair has rich museum, and equipped by modern apparatus.Since the day of foundation about 50 Candidate theses and 6 Doctorate dissertations have been defended. The staff of the chair and problem laboratories have published more than 900 scientific articles, 20 handbooks, 3 monographies, 19 booklets, as well as 5 text-books have been translated. The staff of the chair collaborates with Salonika, New York, Barcelona and other Universities and international organizations.
