History and objectives

The basic laboratory of ecology and organic agriculture was founded in 2009, on the base of the basic laboratory of ecological issues, founded in 2005. The head of the laboratory was E. Hayrapetyan, since the day of foundation to 2009. M. Galstyan has headed the laboratory since 2010. The basic laboratory of ecology and organic agriculture is aiming at developing and applying modern technologies for ecologically clean food production on the base of laboratory researches and experiments conducted in the open fields with man-made pollution.

Ten researchers working at the laboratory, are investing their best to solve the problems of the lab and reach the goals the lab has put.

In result of researches conducted at the laboratory of ecology and organic agriculture some suggestions were made:

Fertilization of agricultural crops using mineral fertilizers in man-made polluted areas of the Republic (areas near mining and cement companies of Vanadzor, Alaverdi, Noyemberyan, Hrazdan, Ararat, Kapan, Qajaran, Agarak) so the produced food will be ecologically safe and corresponds to toxicological norms (guidelines).

The laboratory of ecology and organic agriculture collaborates with Universities of Fresno and New Jersey (USA), Warsaw Agricultural University (Poland), Water resources management scientific center of Holland, regional centers for the preservation of dry and semi-deserted ecosystems and agro-diversity in the South Caucasus.
The basic laboratory was renamed into Research center for Ecology and Organic Agriculture.
