Cofounder ANAU Agribusiness Teaching Center, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ICARE Foundation, Professor Emeritus of Texas A&M University, former Head of Department of Agricultural Economics, Texas A&M John Nichols has won College Station Mayor with 63,52% of votes after running against his two young opponents. College Station is the city where the longtime ANAU partner university, Texas A&M is. After his active academic career, Dr. Nichols was a member of College Station City Council for many years.
Dr. Nichols, together with Dr. Dan Dunn, is the founder of the Agribusiness Teaching Center and the International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education (ICARE); both brought a new culture of agribusiness and marketing education and applied research to the Agrarian University and to Armenia in general. This culture helps us today in our successful efforts to transforming our university into a modern agritech education, research and extension center of excellence.
To this day, Dr. Nichols remains the unchanged Chairman of the ICARE Board of Trustees and, of course, the great friend of the Armenian National Agrarian University. During his last visit to ANAU in June 2022, he noted with great satisfaction the great progress of our university, saying that he was happy to see how our shared vision of reforms is becoming a reality.
On behalf of the Armenian National Agrarian University, I warmly congratulate Dr. Nichols on his election as the Mayor of College Station and wish him great achievements for his community, his country and universal values, which are professed by the great friend and the devoted partner of ANAU and Armenia.
