On March 16, a meeting with the employers was organized within the framework of Erasmus+ KA2 project Development of Aquaculture and Fisheries Education for Green Deal in Armenia and Ukraine: from Education to Ecology (AFISHE). The project team of ANAU, which coordinates AFESHE,  representatives of two other partners of the project: International Scientific-Educational Center of RA NAS and Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of the RA NAS, as well as Program Coordinator of National Erasmus+ Office in Armenia Lana Karlova participated in the meeting.

The main aim of this meeting was to discover the key problems that the employees of the sector of aquaculture and fisheries face and get a clear picture of what kind of specialists are required for the sector. The meeting was also aimed at discussing possibilities of university-enterprise-research cooperation. The employers mentioned the skills and knowledge that the future specialists need to have and the directions that should be included in the master’s program to be developed within the framework of this project.

Head of ANAU International Relations Department, Garegin Hambardzumyan introduced the project, its objectives, duration, partners and the sequence of the actions to be taken.The Project Coordinator from Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology, Bardukh Gabrielyan spoke about the implemented large-scale benchmarking. Benchmarking with a number of European, US and Canadian MS progrmas has been done. The employers suggested to include in the Master’s program professional skills that would help address the water scarcity problem and prevent the damages caused to the environment, control and treat fish diseases, reproduce red list extinct species, design and manage fish farms, etc. The master’s program will include the specialties like hydorchemist, hydrobiologist, fish breeder, ichthyologist.

The presented suggestions will become the basis for developing “Aquaculture and Fisheries” master’s program in line with the needs of the business community and the society at large.
