After learning about the 5th International Agro-Technological Summit “Innovative Development of the CIS in the Conditions of Globalization of the Economy” organized within the framework of the 90th anniversary of Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), I decided to participate. My decision was based on the fact that I have been working on a research topic dedicated to innovative agriculture for several months. My motivation for participation increased even more when I learned that more than 223 speakers from 54 countries were invited to the event, with the topics definitely indicating that I would gain a lot of knowledge from my participation.
The topic of my presentation was “The need for innovative development of the RA agriculture; the main actors and their functions”․ Agriculture, being one of the most important sectors of the Armenian economy, has many unsolved problems. Currently, the world is facing global challenges (population growth, climate change, limited land areas, biodiversity reduction, etc.). Innovation is the best way to address local and global challenges. The basis of innovative development of the economy, particularly agriculture, is science.
Only 0.19% of the GDP is allocated to science from the RA State Budget. Do you know what country is the world leader in this index? It’s a country with area smaller than the Republic of Armenia (only 22 thousand square kilometers), but with a population several times more than that of Armenia (more than 9 million). That country is Israel; this country spends 4.95% of GDP on science, 26 times more than Armenia. In my speech, I introduced the actors of innovative agriculture, particularly referring to the state and its main functions in this direction.
More than ever, we must become stronger, develop both as individuals and as a nation. To achieve this, each of us must work hard and fulfill his/her obligations properly and with responsibility. Our vision should be the promotion of the national interest, not personal.
