The main objective of the VETfarm project is to tackle the digital skills gap in the horticultural sector of Armenia by improving the level of integrated use of digital technologies through capacity-building development for agricultural VET.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0 this\u00a0 project,\u00a0 a\u00a0 consortium\u00a0 consisting\u00a0 of\u00a0 2\u00a0 Armenian\u00a0 partners\u00a0 and\u00a0 2\u00a0 EU\u00a0 partners\u00a0 was formed,\u00a0 of\u00a0 which\u00a0 3\u00a0 partners\u00a0 are\u00a0 companies\/research\u00a0 organisations\u00a0 and\u00a0 1\u00a0 partner\u00a0 is\u00a0 an agricultural VET provider.\u00a0 In this project, we aim to develop skilled human resources and academic infrastructure for teaching and using the geospatial approach for precision farming in Armenia, based on the needs of local partners and the experience of the project team.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, a\u00a0 good investment has been made by the private sector in\u00a0 Armenia to develop\u00a0 and\u00a0 grow\u00a0 large\u00a0 pistachio\u00a0 (hereafter\u00a0 called\u00a0 pista)\u00a0 farms.\u00a0 It\u00a0 is\u00a0 clear\u00a0 that\u00a0 the existence of (specialised) human resources for continuous monitoring and management of pista orchards and the use of modern technologies will play an important role in the success of\u00a0 this\u00a0 investment.\u00a0 For\u00a0 this\u00a0 purpose,\u00a0 there\u00a0 is\u00a0 a\u00a0 need\u00a0 to\u00a0 train\u00a0 future\u00a0 VET\u00a0 students\u00a0 in\u00a0 pista farming management.<\/p>\n<p>On the 11th and 12th of December 2023, the VETfarm Kick-Off Meeting took place at the Armenian National Agrarian University (ANAU) and Under Sun LLC (UNDER SUN) in Yerevan, Armenia.\u00a0\u00a0 This\u00a0 meeting\u00a0 marked\u00a0 the\u00a0 official\u00a0 start\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 project\u00a0 and\u00a0 brought\u00a0 all\u00a0 the\u00a0 participating organisations together, initiate project startup activities and conduct a thorough review of the VETfarm project proposal. Subsequently, formulate an operational plan for effective communication with project partners. The participants also discussed the significance of digitalization\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 pista\u00a0 sector\u00a0 and\u00a0 highlighted\u00a0 the\u00a0 potential\u00a0 impact\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 project\u00a0 on transforming farming practices in Armenia.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting had six sessions, which included university and lab tours, field\/farm visits, two group photos, and over 30 participants from participating organizations, delegates, and guests.\u00a0 Among\u00a0 the\u00a0 guests\u00a0 was\u00a0 Ms.\u00a0 Lana\u00a0 Karlova,\u00a0 Coordinator\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 National\u00a0 Erasmus+ office in Armenia. In addition to the sessions, participants also visited the Water and Land Resources Center, ANAU Center for Precision Agriculture and Drone Lab, and the Farm\/Soil Lab at Under Sun company.
