Scientific Center was established in 1958, as "Scientific Research Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry". Founder and first director of center was Hrant Petrosyan, who headed the center till 1988. In 1999 the scientific center was renamed as "Soil Science, Land Melioration and Agrochemistry Scientific Center named after H. Petrosyan" Branch of ANAU Foundation. In 2003 it became SNCO and in 2012 center till 1988. In 1999 the scientific center was renamed as “Soil Science, Land-Reclamation and Agrochemistry Scientific Center named after H. Petrosyan" Branch of ANAU Foundation

There are 4 divisions in the Scientific Center of Soil Science, Land-Reclamation and Agrochemistry named after H. Petrosyan and each of them has its own laboratories: division of soil genesis and geography, division of agrochemistry, division of soil erosion, division of melioration.

It’s worth mentioning that the only Soil Museum of the RA operates in the very Scientific Center of Soil Science, Land-Reclamation and Agrochemistry named after H. Petrosyan. The field of specialization of the Division of Soil Genesis and Geography comprises the study of the RA soil resources, soil genetic peculiarities, geographical allocation patterns, soil contamination, soil classification, soil mapping, etc. Since the establishment of this division land areas in 1:10000 scale have been studied and soil maps have been created (together with the explanatory notes). Moreover, a large-scale research was conducted by the Division of Soil Genesis and Geography on the bases of which "Armenian SSR Soil" collective work, "Soil Map of the Republic of Armenia", "The RA Soil Ecology, Efficient Land Use and Land Improvement" and other works were published. Further, the soil map of the Republic of Armenia at a scale of 1:200000 and 1:100000 was created. Thus, all the above mentioned activities promoted the works done in the sphere of agriculture such as soil conservation, efficient land use, soil fertility improvement, etc.
