The Summer School helped me to make my students more competitive

Within the framework of Erasmus + KA 1 credit mobility program Lena Mamikonyan, Instructor of Analysis and Forecasting at the Agribusiness Teaching Center of ANAU, has recently participated at the International Summer School organized by Radboud University in Nijmegen,The Netherlands. The topic of the training was “Introduction to Data Science with R and Rstudio for the Social Sciences”. The course was conducted by Professor Maurice Vergeer from the Department of Social Sciences at Radboud Univeristy. More than 25 participants from Ukraine, Slovakia, Israel, Albania, Poland and other countries participated in the training.

“The Radboud Summer School provided a good opportunity for gaining applied knowledge about R and Rstudio, as well as for the exchange of knowledge with the colleagues from other universities and for future cooperation with them. Particularly I liked the way the course was organized starting from very beginning with the introduction of R and basic statistics till covering hard topics such as introducing how to combine data from different datasets using R. The course lecturer was very experienced with R, he was very attentive and answered to all the questions we had. I also liked the style of his teaching. He organized discussions on different statistical, research and other topics in which I felt very confident among others because of my knowledge, strong background, research experience, and the confidence I had acquired during my studies and teaching experience at the Master of Agribusiness program at ATC,” Ms. Mamikonyan says.
Lena would like to see the same situation in Armenian universities, when in addition to the topics directly related to the particular class, other related topics could also be discussed during the class.
Another interesting part of summer school was the discussion of research topics and sharing the experience with PhD students, lecturers and experts in different fields. They shared their experiences in writing articles, the models and data used, etc.
“During my teaching experience I have introduced to my students the basics of R at the Econometrics course, however, I have now the opportunity to share with them the knowledge I gained during the Summer School and help them become more competitive in the job market,” Lena says.
